Preparing for a Keynote Presentation
Main goal for your presentation
Your main goal when you share at a networking event is to provide free content that will help businesses grow.
The purpose of what you share is to help others feel encouraged and equipped to work on growing their business.

Purpose for our presentations
There are two types of public speaking opportunities available:
1. Business Growth Segment - 15 to 20 minutes
2. Community Growth Segment - 5 to 10 minutes
The business growth segment happens after our 60 second pitches and is focused on helping business owners grow their business using one of our 6 guiding principles.
The community growth segment happens before the 60 second pitches and focuses on clarifying the mission, values and objectives we have as a group.
Business Growth Segment Guidelines
The focus of this presentation should be on a lesson or topic aligned with one of our 6 guiding principles below:
1. Clarify your Offering
2. Understand your Audience
3. Deliver with Excellence
4. Develop your Marketing
5. Craft your sales
6. Define your Money Plan
IMPORTANT: Personal stories and examples related to your business are allowed to communicate a point better. However, business call to actions such as "if you want more value, book a free consultation" are not allowed.
Recommended Outline
If you're unsure how to craft a good business growth outline, below is a template you can customize:
1. Point or topic - 2 minutes
Share with your listeners exactly what you'll be talking about. Sometimes it's helpful to share a personal story here to help your audience see how the point is relevant.
2. Purpose - 5 minutes
Explain why this point matters to their business's success. You can even break this down into "three reasons this topic matters".
3. Problem - 5 minutes
Share the issues your listeners probably experience in their business. Again, you can break this down into "three problems we face as business owners."
4. Solution - 5 minutes
Explain the set of answers, tools, insights or resources that will help your audience resolve their problem. You can break it down into several points like "three actions to help you solve this problem".
5. Impact - 3 minutes
This is a good way to help encourage and motivate your audience on the powerful results they can expect when applying your principles. When you can help them see the impact it will have for their business, it helps them feel more excited to apply what you're sharing.
Community Growth Segment Guidelines
The focus of this presentation should be on clarifying the mission and either a core value or key objective from the group.
It's also the time where the speaker explains the agenda to the members.
Mission statement:
"To help businesses make money doing what they love while serving others."
Core values:
1. Competence
2. Care
3. Character
4. Courage
5. Consistency
Key Objectives:
1. Connect
2. Grow
3. Reach
4. Impact
5. Give
IMPORTANT: Personal stories and examples related to your business are allowed to communicate a point better. However, business call to actions such as "if you want more value, book a free consultation" are not allowed.
Recommended Outline
If you're unsure how to craft a good community growth outline, below is a template you can customize:
1. Share your CSBC Story - 2 minutes
We encourage speakers to share their story of being a member at CSBC. How has this group benefited you? Why does it matter?
2. Encourage Critical Actions - 3 minutes
Some of our critical actions we encourage people to take at CSBC are:
- Have a "serve" mindset vs a "seller" mindset
- Give the gift of "first" and connect with another person
- Schedule a 1:1 follow up with at least one person
- Look for potential referral partnership opportunities
- Invite or bring guests to the next gathering
3. Mission Statement - 1 minutes
Remind everyone what our mission statement is. This is a good time to share why providing for your family (making money) doing what you love while serving others is important to you.
4. Value or Objective - 5 to 10 minutes
Choose to talk about either a value or objective. This is a great time to share how this is relevant to you, why this value or objective matters, and what it looks like to be practiced. For example, what does it mean to "Care" about others? How do we "Reach" people with our business?
Public Speaking Best Practices
For the speaker delivering any of these presentations, there are always two main goals:
1. Communicate with excellence
2. Don't sweat the mistakes
If you make any mistakes while speaking, don't feel bad. No one in the room will know it! It's better to make a mistake and be natural and authentic than to come to panic in front of your listeners.
We also want to encourage excellence when it comes to public speaking. This isn't just to help our group be better. This is to help you develop more into a powerful speaker.
Below are a few tips for making your presentation a success:
1. Start with an outline of your speech
You can use our outline provided above if you'd like. I find it's always helpful to create an outline first so I know the direction of where my talk is going.
2. Type out your speech word for word
On average, 2,000 words will be about 15 to 20 minutes. Writing out a transcript of your speech isn't always necessary, but it does make it easier to absorb your talking points and be more familiar with your content.
3. Verbally practice your speech 2-3 times
Talking through your transcript helps you get more comfortable and feel more confident speaking. It allows gives you an idea of exactly how long your speech will be. If it's only 5 minutes long, add more points and content to it so it doesn't feel too short for your audience.
4. Record yourself speaking
If you want to refine and develop your public talking skills, consider doing what Zig Ziglar encouraged his audience to do: Record yourself and listen to how you sound."
It can feel awkward the first few times, but the insights and lessons you'll get from hearing yourself will be priceless.
5. Be yourself
At the end of the day, we encourage you to just be YOU. Share from your heart - tell stories about your personal journey. Share why your content really matters to you. And never try to be someone you're not. Ultimately people will appreciate your genuineness which is the most important thing.
